
On Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, 32-year-old Israel Vazquez (pictured above) will meet 35-year-old Rafael Marquez for the fourth time -- but the first time as featherweights (126 pounds).
On Monday, Showtime began showing replays of the Vazquez-Marguez trilogy, starting with their first fight in March of 2007, when Marquez ((38-5, 34 knockouts) scored a seventh-round knockout that dethroned Vazquez (44-4, 32 KOs) as WBC super bantamweight (122 pounds) champion.
Vazquez won the next two times by sixth-round knockout in August 2007 and split-decision in March 2008.
Vazquez ended a 19-month ring absence with October's ninth-round knockout of Angel Antonio Priolo, and Marquez, a 14-month layoff with May's third-round knockout of Jose Francisco Mendoza.
On Saturday, at 4 p.m., Showtime will air the two-hour, documentary "Vazquez-Marquez: The Trilogy."
Originally aired following their third fight, "The Trilogy" is a two-hour documentary that takes viewers inside of an incredible rivalry that is rooted in Mexican pride.
A resident of Huntington Park, Calif., Vazquez was born, Israel Vazquez Castaneda, in Mexico City, Mex. Born, Rafael Marquez Mendez, Marquez still lives in his native Mexico City.
Their clashes are fueled by warrior-like determination and cultivated by mutual respect for one another, which is a true rarity in the sport.
The in-depth documentary breaks down each of the three fights-and replays the entire, epic third fight while also incorporating opinions and analysis from the fighters, their managers and trainers, reporters and industry experts.
