Kyle OrtonHere's what's happening around the National Football League on Monday, May 24, 2010:

• There appears to be conflicting information floating around about Kyle Orton's future with the Broncos. On Sunday, the Denver Post reported that the team had shopped Orton this offseason after adding Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow. But later in the day, a team official texted ESPN's Adam Schefter that "Kyle Orton Has NEVER been available or discussed. Ever! Period."

It's hard to definitively say which set of information is more accurate. But even if the Broncos aren't actively discussing an Orton trade at the moment, should Quinn and Tebow perform well in camp, that could quickly change. Orton's only signed through the 2010 season, and a team desperate for a veteran QB could be willing to float a middle-of-the-road draft pick in exchange for Orton.

"Oh, I'm competing for the job, but I certainly feel like it is my job, and my teammates know that," Orton said last week after a Denver practice. "I'm going to keep on trying to show that to them every single day."

• It didn't take long for Eric Berry to ascend the Chiefs' depth chart. According to KCChiefs.com's Josh Looney, Berry replaced Reshard Langford on Kansas City's first-team defense at Monday's OTA.

The starting free safety spot is probably Berry's to lose -- Jon McGraw started nine games there last season and was underwhelming.

• Three men were arrested in Pittsburgh after trying to break into Heinz Field. Police said the men "used themselves like human ladders" to scale the structure's gates. After being apprehended, the men told police they were trying to retrieve a wallet that had been left at the stadium -- for the record, the Steelers' last home game was in December.

Transaction Wire

• The Saints signed fullback Jason McKie to a one-year deal, the team confirmed. McKie spent the past seven seasons with Chicago, where he earned 47 starts, but his role there vanished when the Bears brought in new offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

• Chicago also made a free-agent move, picking up linebacker Brian Iwuh. A former Jaguar, Iwuh will compete for time on special teams.

Injury Ward

• Baltimore cornerbacks Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb are both ahead of schedule in rehabilitating ACL injuries. Both players missed substantial time in the second half of the season.

Dr. James Andrews, who performed Washington's surgery after he tore his ACL, informed Washington that he should be able to participate in training camp, according to National Football Post.

• Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss, who could soon find himself in hot water over a report linking him to HGH-distributing Dr. Anthony Galea, returned to practice Monday after sitting out last week as he recovered from knee surgery.

Tweet Up

• Giants tight end Kevin Boss (@KevinBossman): "Just waking up from surgery...Doc said things went really well!! I think I'm gonna stop on the way home and get a workout in! Haha!"
