Williams sported a black dress with bright red trim over skin-tone underwear. The black overlay material of the dress made it appear to be see-through (it was not) and resembled a corset more than a tennis outfit. Her underwear often gave the illusion that she was bottomless (she definitely was not) and sent photographers searching for a perfect photo angle.
The fashion-conscious Williams said her look was "about illusion" and is "a lot of my motif this year."
In a match at the Sony Ericsson Open in March, Williams wore a red, spaghetti-strapped dress trimmed with a flounce or ruffles. Williams also had to assure the media that she was not going commando at the Australian Open in January when she wore similar underwear.
As for the Americans' tennis on Sunday? Williams rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, assuring that she has at least one more chance to dress to impress while in Paris.
