Hideki IrabuHideki Irabu keeps finding ways to pop back into our lives long after he was a relevant major league pitcher (note, the use of the term relevant as opposed to good). Last year, it was his attempt to mount a comeback with the Long Beach Armada of the Golden Baseball League. Two years ago, it was because he drank to excess and assaulted a bartender when his credit card was rejected in his native Japan.

Our annual walk down Irabu memory lane in 2010 comes after the former Yankees, Expos and Rangers pitcher, now a resident of Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif., was arrested for alleged drunk driving in nearby Gardena.

Irabu was stopped May 17 when he was spotted drifting in and out of traffic lanes and he nearly hit a parked car.

A police spokesman said Irabu posted $5,000 bail and that a decision on whether to press charges will be made next month when the results of his blood test come back.

The man once called a "fat toad" by George Steinbrenner has been a punchline for more than a decade now, but his increasingly destructive actions in recent years could change things from humorous to sad.
