Whether roaming the pitch in the 80's and 90's as an elite playmaker or patroling the sideline as current coach of the Argentinian national team, soccer legend Diego Maradona is famous for his raw and unfiltered (some might even say naked) outbursts of emotion.Yet his latest gesture might trump anything the fiery striker has done in the past.
When asked during a recent radio interview what he would do if Argentina returned from South Africa with its third World Cup title, Maradona offered up a very revealing answer.
"If we win the World Cup, I'll get naked and run around [Buenos Aires]," Maradona replied.
The answer might seem to be tongue in cheek, but Maradona is no stranger to controversy. He has battled cocaine and alcohol addictions over the course of his lifetime, and he recently ran over a reporter's leg in his car. Instead of apologizing, however, Maradona chastised the reporter for being in his way.
During the radio interview -- which took place after Argentina thumped Canada, 5-0 -- Maradona also explained why he chose not to play reigning FIFA player of the year Lionel Messi during the World Cup tune-up.
"If something would have happened to [Messi] in that match, I'd have been kicked -- you can imagine where," said Maradona.
Which, naturally, would have made any post-World Cup streaking all that much more interesting.
