Top Euro Withdraws From NBA Draft

Donatas Motiejunas, a Lithuanian big man known for his jumper, has decided to withdraw his name from eligibility for the 2010 NBA Draft, according to DraftExpress. In recent weeks, Motiejunas has failed to create enough buzz to move up prevalent draft boards, and his agents apparently think he can do better next summer.

Motiejunas became the top international prospect in the draft only when Jan Vesely, a Czech forward slotted in the mid-lottery by many draft watchers, announced in April that he'd be waiting until 2011 to establish his NBA eligibility. The most well-regarded international draft prospect would now appear to be French forward Kevin Seraphin. But Seraphin suffered an injury last week which, according to DX, will keep him out of action for 2-3 weeks, putting a major strain on his workout schedule considering the draft is only 20 days away.

DX currently has no international players other than Motiejunas and Seraphin projected for the first round. ESPN's Chad Ford similarly has no other international players in the first round. FanHouse's current NBA mock draft has Atlanta taking Miroslav Raduljica, a center from Serbia, at No. 24.

Five international players were selected in the first round last season. Barring a miracle, this will be the first draft since 2000 in which no international player was selected in the lottery. (Hedo Turkoglu was picked No. 16 -- just outside the lotto -- in 2000.) The last draft in which no international players were selected in the first round was 1995.
