A NASCAR veteran caught the ire of a sophomore driver and his father after spinning out the young driver at the end of of Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.Kevin Harvick dipped inside of Joey Logano on the second-to-last lap of the 200-lap race as they battled for fourth place, made contact and spun Logano's No. 20. Following the race, Logano parked his Toyota alongside Harvick's No. 29 on pit road, promptly exited his car and engaged in a shouting match with Harvick -- all while being egged on by his father Tom Logano.
Afterwards, in a television interview, Logano said, "It's disappointing. We had a top-five run going. For us, that was going to be awesome and I was pretty pumped up about it."
Logano almost made a nice save by accelerating when his car went into a spin, but his car did go around and he wound up facing the wrong direction on the inside of the track having avoided contact with the wall. Jimmie Johnson tiptoed through the tire smoke and narrowly avoided the spinning No. 20.
Share Television replays appeared to show Tom Logano trying to deflect one of the crew members on his 20-year-old son's team, and then pointing Joey in the direction of Harvick. Last season, Tom Logano had his NASCAR "hard card" -- a permanent credential -- pulled by the sanctioning body for a similar incident at Auto Club Speedway.
Harvick didn't appear to respond heavily to Joey Logano's criticism on pit road, but that didn't stop Logano from saying a few things he might regret on Monday.
"His wife wears the fire suit in the family and tells him what to do, so it's probably not his fault."
-- Joey Logano "It's probably not his fault. His wife wears the fire suit in the family and tells him what to do, so it's probably not his fault," Logano said, referring to Harvick's wife Delana. "It is what it is. It's just ridiculous. I don't know what I've ever done to piss him off, but he is apparently stupid."
Harvick, who finished the day in fourth, explained the move before deflecting Logano's opinion.
"I got in there and thought I held a straight line, and he wound up coming down," said Harvick. "You can't talk to him. He's 20."
Harvick went on to say, "I got into him there going into [Turn] 3 and he just races with not giving people any respect and not much room. So, we just wound up getting together. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it goes."
Logano seemed destined for a top-five finish but wound up 13th. Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin won despite Logano's crash forcing a green-white-checkered finish when the caution flag waved just before Hamlin crossed the start/finish line. Hamlin easily held off fellow teammate Kyle Busch on the restart for the win -- his fourth of the season.
