Jordan Statue Skates Stripped of Logos

CHICAGO -- White electrical tape now covers up all brand logos on the skates attached to the feet of the Michael Jordan statue in front of the United Center.

A fan apparently affixed the Nike logos to the skates between Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, but when the series returned for Game 5 on Sunday the stickers had been covered over. The skates still have No. 19 stickers and the Blackhawks logos visible on each skate, and of course, captain Jonathan Toews' jersey, which still has a Reebok patch attached.

Jordan wore the same jersey to Game 5, although he wasn't taking questions from reporters.

It's the latest twist in what has turned into a humorous sideshow. Jordan, the former NBA great who used an American flag to hide the Reebok logo at the 1992 Summer Game's men's basketball medal ceremony, has been linked to Nike for more than 25 years and still sells the Jordan brand.

Nike still hasn't said a word on the subject, and it's unclear who was behind covering all brand logos with tape.
