A normally routine traffic citation Monday night ended up being not-so-routine for Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. The suspended Ducks star was stopped for exiting a driveway without stopping, and was eventually found to be in possession of "one ounce or less" of marijuana.

The University of Oregon athletic department wasted no time in permanently dismissing one of its greatest players from the team. Amusingly, news of the dismissal arrived via the athletic department's Twitter account on a day where Twitter has been all but disabled.

Masoli earned the dismissal thanks to a previous arrest and guilty plea for second-degree burglary. Ducks coach Chip Kelly seems interested in mixing discipline with access to football activities for his players, but Masoli clearly abused the leniency so quickly after being placed on season-long suspension.

Under Masoli, the Ducks had the most conference wins in a two-year stretch in program history, going 20-6 overall, including a Rose Bowl berth last season.
