Here's what's happening around the National Football League on Friday, June 11, 2010:• Even if the the upcoming season ends with the Ravens hoisting the Lombardi Trophy as Super Bowl champions, coach John Harbaugh won't be satisfied.
"The idea is to build a dynasty," Harbaugh told BaltimoreRavens.com "That's what we're trying to do.
"And to do that you've got to win multiple championships. We've said that. And to win multiple championships, first you've got to win one. They won one in 2000, and we need to win our next one, and this year is as good as any to get that done."
The Ravens are 18-1 to win the 2011 Super Bowl, according to Bodog.com.
• One of the best games in the college career of current Giants receiver Steve Smith came in USC's 55-19 Orange Bowl victory in 2005, a win that gave the Trojans the national title. But that game will be wiped from the record books as part of the punishment handed to USC by the NCAA Thursday.
"It just kind of sucks because that was one of my best games as a Trojan," Smith said, according to the New York Daily News. "If they take away the record books, I don't want some kid who is looking 10 years from now to not see my name on it.
"But they can't take my ring away. They can't take the tape away. They can't take my memories away."
• Packers QB Aaron Rodgers made headlines during an interview with ESPN Radio Milwaukee when he criticized ex-Monday Night Football commentator Tony Kornheiser, saying, "I don't think he knows anything about sports."
But Rodgers also sneaked a jab in at division rival Detroit. While advocating for LeBron James to sign with the Clippers, Rodgers said that the downtrodden L.A. franchise should think about some changes.
"New uniforms, new logo," Rodgers said. "Worked for the Lions, right?"
The Lions redid their logo prior to the 2010 season, then finished 2-14.
Transaction Wire
• Oakland signed former Jacksonville defensive lineman John Henderson to a one-year deal, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Henderson previously played his entire eight-year career with the Jags. In that time he racked up 29 sacks, including three last season.
• With star wide receiver Vincent Jackson holding out, the Chargers acquired some insurance in the form of veteran free agent Josh Reed. San Diego announced Friday that it has signed Reed to a one-year deal.
Injury Ward
• Rams offensive tackle Jason Smith, a starter for five games in his rookie season, will miss the remainder of St. Louis' minicamp and OTAs with a stress fracture in his toe. There's very little Smith can do to heal that injury besides rest it, so the Rams will cross their fingers and hope that he'll be ready to roll for training camp and the regular season.
• Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, who earlier this week tore his right ACL for the second time in less than a year, will undergo surgery this weekend, according to the Charlotte Observer. Davis suffered the same injury in November of last season, but was on track to be ready for the start of the 2010 season before this latest setback.
