Celtics Have No Excuse for Lazy Debacle

LOS ANGELES -- They were back to shouting "BOSTON SUCKS! BOSTON SUCKS!" in Staples Center, letting the chant swirl around the lower and upper bowls with a vindictive vigor. Only this time, I don't think any of us who watched the Celtics in Game 6 would disagree with the sentiment. They really did stink Tuesday night, delivering one of the ugliest and most sluggish performances imaginable for a sports team on the doorstep of a championship.

Who scores 67 points, second-lowest ever in the NBA Finals, in a potential elimination game? Who falls behind by 22 points in the first half and loses 89-67? Who shoots an abysmal 33 percent from the field and manages merely 13 points from the bench, including an astonishing goose egg in 27 minutes from Game 4 hero and press-conference comic Glen "Big Baby" Davis and an even more galling shutout from Rasheed (0 for 7, four fouls) Wallace? Who looks like they never boarded the plane from New England, missing eight of their first nine shots and getting pounded 30-13 on the boards in the first two quarters? I understand the league is predicated on home-court advantages, but this debacle had absolutely nothing to do with conspiracy theories or suspicious officiating.
