Here's wJaMarcus Russellhat's happening around the National Football League on Tuesday, June 29, 2010:

• The Jets, who have made it known they would like to bring in a veteran QB to back up starter Mark Sanchez, have shown interest in JaMarcus Russell, ESPNNewYork.com reported.

Mark Brunell is the "odds-on favorite" to land the Jets' backup job, according to the report, but Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum is keeping his options open.

ESPNNewYork said Russell is currently working out in Arizona, hoping to shed some of the 300 pounds he reportedly ballooned to.

• One day after losing tackle Willie Colon for the season to an Achilles injury, the Steelers welcomed veteran lineman Flozell Adams to Pittsburgh for a free-agent visit, according to ESPNDallas.

Adams had been a fixture on the Cowboys' offensive line since 1998, starting 178 games, but Dallas let him go after the 2009 season. Adams, 35, has not played right tackle -- Colon's position -- since he was a rookie, but the Steelers would likely move him over if he signed. The Steelers' current left tackle, Max Starks, looks a safe bet to retain his position despite the team's sudden uncertainty up front.

Transaction Wire

• Kansas City signed its fifth-round pick, S Kendrick Lewis out of Mississippi. Lewis earned some reps with the Chiefs' first-team defense during offseason workouts.

• The Redskins released WR Marques Hagans, who has been a member of the Redskins since late 2008, though he has not seen any game action. Since coming into the league in 2006, Hagans has nine catches for 108 yards.

Injury Ward

• Texans RB Steve Slaton implied on Twitter that he had been given a clean bill of healthy after offseason neck surgery.

"Thanks everyone for your thoughts but ... I'm back," Slaton wrote. He later added: "Thank you lord for watching over me and helping me heal fast and correctly."

Tweet Up

• Ravens WR Donte' Stallworth (@ D_Stallworth18): "Fake street? Really Russia?? Please step ya espionage game up!! #CmonSon at least do like China & go cyber spying on the U.S."
