Paying for a football program costs much more than any other individual sport in collegiate athletics, we already knew that. To illustrate this fact and to see the extent, here is a breakdown of each school by conference in the second-biggest money sport. We have listed the schools in order of how much money they spend on men's basketball in comparison to the respective football programs.
For example, Duke is the closest to spending an equal amount on basketball as football, with the $13.87 million in basketball expenses being 88.1 percent of the money spent on the Blue Devils' football program.
Only schools with FBS football programs are included and we'll group Notre Dame in the Big East, since it takes part in Big East basketball.
All figures are in millions of dollars. Percent means the percentage of money spent on men's basketball as compared to football, and expenses listed are only men's basketball.
