In the latest chapter in the free agent saga that will not end, LeBron James is reportedly looking for townhouse space within minutes of Madison Square Garden in New York.

The New York Post breathlessly reported Wednesday that "the world's greatest basketball player" is scouting for housing in the West Village, raising hopes that James will sign a free-agent contract with the Knicks.

In case you hadn't heard, James will become an unrestricted free agent Thursday, and is reportedly considering signing with the Knicks, Miami, New Jersey and Chicago, as well as with Cleveland, his current team.

A New York real estate broker told the Post that James, who is 6-foot-8, had been looking for townhouses with enough ceiling height so that he won't bump his head.

The broker, Dolly Lenz, said James had been looking at the four-floor, $13 million townhouse where singer Billy Joel and his ex-wife, celebrity chef Katie Lee, lived, as well as a $15 million apartment on the 63rd floor of the Time Warner Building on Columbus Circle.

The Post also reported that James has been taking in the sights and sounds of New York over the past week, getting serenaded by R&B singer Mary J. Blige at a nightclub last Thursday and watching the U.S.-Ghana World Cup match Saturday at a restaurant while other diners stared at him.

Here's a four-word plea for the King: Sign a contract, already!x
