Dre Bly Dre Blyhas signed a two-year deal with the Lions, the team announced Friday. Bly played for Detroit from 2003-06 and made the Pro Bowl twice during that span.

"I feel like I played my best ball here in Detroit," Bly told DetroitLions.com. "I feel like it's home and to come back and have the chance to finish my career where I played my best ball -- where I feel like I'm part of the community -- is a great feeling."

The Lions traded him to Denver for Tatum Bell, George Foster and a fifth-round draft pick prior to the 2007 season. Bly, now 33, spent two seasons in Denver before moving to San Francisco last year. He started six games at cornerback for the 49ers in 2009 and picked off three passes.

Detroit has spent this offseason trying to beef up a secondary that was ripped apart time and again in 2009 -- the Lions finished last in the league in passing yards against at 265.6 per game. They've added several new faces to the mix, though, including cornerbacks Chris Houston, Dante Wesley, Jonathan Wade and draft pick Amari Spievey. With all of that turnover, Bly will have to compete for a starting job, but figures to at least lock down Detroit's nickel back spot.

Bly intercepted 19 passes in his four previous seasons with Detroit, including six in 2003 and four in 2004, his two Pro Bowl years. He's no longer the game-changer he was, at times, in those days, but the Lions should benefit from his veteran presence and proven track record.

"I feel that when the Lions have struggled over the years, I've struggled as well because, like I said, I feel like I'm a family member," Bly said. "I'm glad to be back. Hopefully we can get things turned around and I just want to be a part of the puzzle."
