(July 6) -- Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel ruled today that actress Lindsay Lohan must serve jail time for violating her probation stemming from a 2007 drunken driving arrest.

Revel sentenced Lohan to 90 days in jail. Lohan sobbed in court as the judge announced her sentence. Revel ordered Lohan to surrender on July 20 and insisted that she continue to wear the SCRAM alcohol monitoring device until that time.

Lohan's legal saga took a serious turn after she failed to report to a June court date. Lohan said her passport was stolen while she was attending the Cannes Film Festival, preventing her from returning to the United States. Because of that infraction, the 24-year-old actress was ordered to be fitted with a SCRAM bracelet to monitor her blood alcohol level.

A new probation review was ordered after the bracelet set off an alarm on June 6, while Lohan was attending the MTV Movie Awards. Lohan and her attorney contend that the alarm went off in error.

At today's hearing, Judge Revel said she was only going to focus on the time the Lohan has missed at Right On, a court-ordered alcohol treatment program, rather than on the disputed SCRAM bracelet alarm. Testimony revealed that Lohan had missed nine scheduled weekly program sessions, and she "acknowledged the violation" but argued that the staff at the facility allowed her to reschedule those meetings.

Revel concluded that the missed appointments constituted a violation of the terms of Lohan's probation. "I ordered her to do it," Revel said near the conclusion of the hearing, "and I couldn't have been more clear, and it wasn't done."

Then Lohan addressed the court.

"As far as I knew, I was being complaint with my program," Lohan said. "I wasn't expecting any special treatment," she added before breaking into tears.

An emotional Lohan pleaded with the judge, "I'm not taking this as a joke. This is my life."
