When LeBron James announces on Thursday which NBA team he has chosen to sign with, he will be sitting in the tony New York City suburb of Greenwich, Conn., ESPN has confirmed. Newsday's Alan Hahn first reported the news. The New York Daily News reports ESPN has booked the Boys and Girls Club from 7-10 p.m. Eastern. Beginning at 9 p.m., ESPN will broadcast an hour-long special called The Decision, during which LeBron, in a live interview with Jim Gray, will announce which team he plans to sign with.
The reason Greenwich was chosen remains a mystery. Both retired Knick Allan Houston, who works in New York's front office, and Nets minority owner Jay-Z, a close friend of James', have homes in Greenwich.
LeBron and ESPN will be donating sponsorship money from The Decision to the Boys and Girls Club of America.
Greenwich is a half-hour train ride from Manhattan, where the Knicks play. Darren Rovell of CNBC reported Wednesday that shares of MSG, the publicly-traded company which encompasses the Knicks and Madison Square Garden, had been rising quickly as news of the location of LeBron's interview spread.
In other bizarre news, Jared Dudley of the Suns tweeted around midday that he has a source who says LeBron will choose the Knicks. Dudley was a teammate of new Knick Amar'e Stoudemire for two years in Phoenix.
