The Los Angeles Kings have reportedly dropped out of negotiations for a second time with top NHL free agent Ilya Kovalchuk. It seemed as if the Kings were finished pursuing Kovalchuk after he rejected the team's offer on Sunday. But reports as of Wednesday had the Kings back in the race to sign the free agent. Now, on Thursday, sources told ESPN.com the Kings have dropped out as a contender -- once again -- to sign the free-agent forward.
Kovalchuk remains the biggest prize on the NHL's free-agent market. The 27-year-old winger spent the final part of the 2009-10 season with the Devils, one of the team's still trying to make a pitch for him.
