The Anti-Lebron: Kevin Durant Re-signs, Quietly and Gracefully

(July 8) -- In contrast to the ongoing LeBron James rumors and the all-around media frenzy around his decision about where to play next season, Kevin Durant offers a graceful alternative. The league's leading scorer for the 2009-2010 season, Durant announced Wednesday his decision to sign a five-year, $85 million contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder via Twitter:
"Exstension for 5 more years wit the #thunder....God Is Great, me and my family came a long way...I love yall man forreal, this a blessing!"
Admittedly, Durant wasn't a free agent and couldn't field offers from other teams. But as the LeBron James backlash kicked into full gear, many are pointing out the contrast in Durant's low-key approach and LeBron's self-aggrandizement (with ESPN's sad but not unexpected complicity).

Deadspin puts it best in a long post that's so expletive laden I won't print excerpts here, but -- if you don't mind that kind of thing -- is worth reading in full here.

And then there's LeBron James' co-author, Pulitzer Prize winner Buzz Bissinger, who has ridiculed James' handling of his free-agency on his Twitter account.
