Professional soccer player Bruno Fernandes -- Brazilian native and goalkeeper of Brazil's extremely popular club, Rio de Janeiro's Flamengo -- turned himself in to police when an official arrest warrant was issued for him nearly a month after the disappearance of his former lover, Eliza Samudio. Police are reporting that Samudio, a former girlfriend of Fernandes, was strangled and then fed to dogs.

Fernandes, 25, continues to deny any wrongdoing in accordance with the situation.

However, homicide investigator, Edson Moreira, reported that Fernandes acted like a monster and is culpable: "Bruno was there and he saw how the woman was completely broken," he said. "According to witnesses he accompanied Eliza to her sacrifice and to her death."

Police are also reporting that Fernandes' teenage cousin provided evidence to link the goalkeeper to Samudio's kidnap and alleged murder. Other suspects and parties are also siding with the cousin's story.

There seems to be a strong motive behind the situation. Samudio has said that Fernandes -- who is married to another woman -- was the father of her baby.

Police, who are still searching for her remains, believe she was kidnapped at a Rio de Janeiro hotel and then strangled in Belo Horizonte. She was then reportedly cut up and fed to dogs, with the rest of her body buried somewhere under concrete.

Fernandes, who served as the captain of Rio de Janeiro's Flamengo, had his contract suspended by the club. Furthermore, the team's lawyer will no longer defend the Brazilian goalkeeper.

Fernandes has played for Flamengo since 2006 and won the Brazilian league championship for the club just one year ago.
