Tyson Chandler came close to making the Olympic team in 2008. Now, he's ready to give it another go.

Rod Higgins, Charlotte's general manager who traded the center earlier in the day to Dallas, said in an interview with FanHouse on Tuesday night that Chandler has been invited to the Team USA training camp next week in Las Vegas.

"They hadn't put out a press release but they let us know about a month ago that he'll be here next week,'' said Higgins, speaking from Las Vegas about the camp in preparation for the World Championships, Aug. 28-Sept. 12 in Turkey. "So he's been training and getting in shape for it.''

A message left with USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo was not immediately returned. USA Basketball publicist Craig Miller said he had just returned from Germany and hadn't been informed about making any announcement on Chandler.

Chandler came close to making the Olympic team in 2008. However, he was the last cut.

"He's in good shape,'' Higgins said. "I think he'll do real well for (Team USA).''

A Chandler inclusion would mean Team USA would have 23 players in Las Vegas as the battle begins for 12 roster spots. But additions and deletions are certainly possible before the camp begins next Tuesday.
