On Saturday, during a party to celebrate a separate $15 million gift to the women's hospital, there was a huge fire at a multi-million dollar home in Bay Harbor, Mich. Bill Michaels of WTMJ Radio in Milwaukee, citing sources, reports that both Woodson and a business partner were inside the house when it caught fire.
Amazingly, no one was injured in the fire. The house was being considered a total loss. An official said there were complications getting to the fire quickly.
(Petoskey Department of Public Safety director John) Calabrese said his first public safety officer was on location at 4:50 a.m., and the first firetruck arrived at 4:55 a.m. - 12 minutes after they received the initial call. The report states that upwards of 150 people attended the party, but only around a dozen were there when the fire broke out.
"We got there as quick as we could," he said. "By the time our firefighters arrived, the home was pretty well engulfed."
Calabrese said his men did have some difficulty getting the department's aerial truck near the home to effectively fight the blaze. "It was a pretty narrow driveway, and there's trees on both sides," he said.
While the Packers pass defense was panned at times for not being very good last season, they couldn't have asked for much more out of Woodson. The veteran -- who won the Heisman Trophy while playing college football at Michigan -- was a star from Week 1 all the way through the season, and he earned NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors after a season where he was just as lethal in coverage as he was in the offensive backfield.
