Free-agent center Brad Miller has reached a deal on a three-year, $15 million contract with Houston, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told FanHouse on Saturday.

Miller, a 12-year veteran who played last season for Chicago, will be a valuable backup for Yao, who missed all of last season due to a foot injury. Miller also had previously played with Rockets coach Rick Adelman in Sacramento.

"It was the combination of being back with (Adelman) and with Yao being back,'' Bartelstein said. "They can be really good.''

Miiller had looked at several teams, but Houston always had remained the leading candidate. The Rockets first locked up restricted free-agent forward Luis Scola to a five-year, $47 million contract and then turned their attention to finalizing the deal for Miller. The third year of Miller's contract is just partially guaranteed.

Miller, 34, is a two-time All-Star with career averages of 11.7 points and 7.5 rebounds. He averaged 8.8 points and 4.9 rebounds last season for the Bulls.

Miller played for Adelman in Sacramento from 2003-06.
