Yogi Berra missed Old-Timers' Day at Yankee Stadium Saturday after a fall at his Montclair, N.J. home left him with some minor bruising and cuts. Though the injuries were not initially believed to be serious, Berra was hospitalized Saturday night, according to a report in the New York Daily News.Berra is said to have watched the Old-Timers' Day celebration from his home Saturday afternoon and been "very touched," according to a source cited in the report, but bleeding from the cuts "intensified" later in the day, and the legendary Hall of Fame catcher had to have a procedure to stop the bleeding once hospitalized.
Citing the same source, the Daily News said the procedure was successful and said that Berra, who takes a blood-thinning medication called Coumadin, is still planning to attend the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies next Sunday in Cooperstown, N.Y.
Berra is expected to be released Sunday night.
