(July 19) -- A magnitude-5.1 earthquake shook British Columbia, Canada, today at 1:15 p.m. EDT, according to a preliminary report by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter of the quake was on Vancouver Island, population approximately 750,000, located about 300 miles west of Vancouver proper and 248 miles northwest of Neah Bay, Wash. The depth of the quake was about 0.6 miles.

There were no tsunami warnings, and no injuries or damages have been reported so far, according to The Oregonian.

The tremor is one in a string of earthquakes that have hit North America in recent days. Still, the number of earthquakes for the year remains average.
