Rangers pitcher Dustin Nippert was knocked out of Monday night's Texas-Detroit game when he was hit on the right side of his head by a line drive off the bat of Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson in the sixth inning.Trainers attended to a dazed Nippert immediately after he was knocked to the Comerica Field turf by Jackson's drive. Despite the scary scene, the right-hander was able to get on his feet relatively quickly and left the field under his own power.
He was taken to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for precautionary reasons. A CAT scan at the hospital came back negative and the Rangers are listing Nippert as day-to-day.
Jackson wound up on second base with a double on a ball he struck with such authority that it ended up in left field after ricocheting off of Nippert.
