Here's what's happening around the National Football League on Wednesday, July 21, 2010:• Nearly four months after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, Darren Sharper was back at the Saints practice facility Wednesday sporting a knee brace.
Don't expect it to become a permanent part of his attire.
"As a defensive back, if you put any type of brace or anything on your legs, that's a target on you," Sharper told NOLA.com. "That's an X marks the spot, so to say. So they're going to be coming at you."
Sharper underwent minor surgery on his left knee in March. Despite missing two games last season, the 34-year-old safety led the league with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns.
After flirting with the Jaguars in free agency, Sharper signed a one-year deal tin March to return to the Super Bowl-champion Saints.
"I'm out here running around, sweating, and that's going to be the main thing to try to get me back, is just to try to get back moving around," Sharper said.
"I think with this one, you have to make sure that you let it heal properly in order to not have any things jump up and have any problems later on ... I'm excited and looking forward to hopefully being ready for when training camp starts."
• Defensive tackle Brian Price became the highest pick from the 2010 draft class to sign when the Buccaneers came to terms with the 35th overall pick, TBO.com reported.
"I'm glad my agent got the deal done so I can concentrate on having a great training camp," Price said in a statement released by the team. "I'm looking forward to contributing to the Buccaneers' dominant defensive tradition."
Price won the Pac-10's Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year Award last year at UCLA. The previous highest-drafted player to sign was Jets offensive tackle Vladimir Ducasse, who was the 61st player pick in April's draft.
