Carlos Zambrano Apologizes to Cubs

Carlos Zambrano has finally apologized for the dugout explosion that landed him on the restricted list and has kept him out of action for the better part of a month now, calling his blowup at teammate Derrek Lee, "a moment of frustration" in a television interview.

The interview also sheds some light on what's happened between Zambrano and his Cubs teammates in the month and a day that's passed since the June 25 incident.

Zambrano says that he got into contact with Lee right after the incident and quickly apologized, though word from the team over the weekend seemed to indicate that he'd been mostly out of contact with everyone since the incident. In any case, Zambrano says that he'll apologize to the full team before taking the mound in a Cubs uniform again.

Of course, all the focus that's been placed on Zambrano has taken some off of the fact that the Cubs were 8 1/2 games out of first place the day of Zambrano's blow-up and they are 10 games back now. Which is to say that they have plenty of problems to worry about, and not all of them are Carlos Zambrano-related.

On the bright side, though, the Cubs can at least get Zambrano back into some baseball games before the season ends to either showcase him for other teams for an offseason trade, or at least get him back on track.

After all, this season has been a bad one for Zambrano for more reasons than just dugout fighting; he's been banished to the bullpen once already thanks to career high marks in ERA, WHIP and home run rate.
