A source within the camp of WBA junior middleweight (154 pounds) champion Miguel Cotto denied reports that the Puerto Rican titlist is interested in a bout against WBC welterweight (147 pounds) champion Andre Berto.

The 29-year-old Cotto (35-2, 28 knockouts) still is hopeful for a potential rematch with WBO welterweight king Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs), according to the source.

The 31-year-old Pacquiao reportedly will pursue his eighth crown in as many weight classes against 32-year-old Antonio Margarito (38-6, 27 KOs) in a clash for the vacant WBC junior middleweight crown Nov. 13 in Las Vegas or Monterrey, Mexico.

Berto (26-0, 20 KOs) is looking for an opponent, and since Pacquiao appears to have chosen Margarito over Cotto, there was reported interest in Berto moving up to face him.

"There's no interest on the part of Cotto at all in fighting Berto," the source said of Cotto, who dethroned then-WBA titlist, Yuri Foreman (28-1, eight KOs) by ninth-round knockout at Yankee Stadium on June 5. "We're waiting to hear what is happening about the decision with Pacquiao and Margarito, but Berto's not in the game for sure."

Citing sources close to the situation, BoxingScene.com reported that Cotto could make his first defense against Top Rank stablemate, Vanes Martirosyan (28-0, 17KOs), who would be in his first world title bout.

If Cotto wins, he could then be in line to face the winner between Pacquiao and Margarito, who also owns an 11th-round knockout victory over Cotto.

A match between the Pacquiao-Margarito winner and Cotto would depend on whether or not Pacquiao -- if he defeats Margarito -- could make a bout with Floyd Mayweather (41-0-25 KOs). Mayweather's past two fights have been promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
