The summer-long saga of Terrell Owens continues. We're still waiting to see where the veteran wide receiver lands for the 2010 season. Over the weekend, word on the street was that both the St. Louis Rams and Cincinnati Bengals were interested.
Now, it looks like we're down to one team for Owens' services. FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer reported Monday that the Rams are not going to pursue Owens. Yahoo's Charles Robinson confirmed that news, writing on Twitter that the Rams are "indeed out of the Terrell Owens hunt." That leaves the Bengals, who appear to be very interested in making a deal.
Brown noted that he spoke with Owens in March, when the 36-year-old receiver worked out for the Bengals.
In relaying Glazer's report that the Rams were out of the running for Owens, Pro Football Talk reported -- via an NFL source -- that the Rams were aware of Owens' desire to play with close friend Chad Ochocinco and quarterback Carson Palmer in Cincinnati. Owens has been working out with Palmer in Florida.
While signing Owens would certainly increase the team's personality, the jury is still out on Owens' impact. He was a disappointment in Buffalo last season, but so was virtually everyone else in a Bills uniform. He might not be getting any younger, but Owens is still a big and powerful receiver who knows how to get open.
Drops have been a serious issue for Owens lately, too. For him to be an effective receiver again, especially if he's playing second (or third) fiddle to Ochocinco and Antonio Bryant in Cincinnati, he has to cut down on the dropped passes.
