Chris CoghlanSAN FRANCISCO -- Walk-off wins are getting dangerous in the major leagues.

The Marlins' Chris Coghlan became the latest casualty of an over-exuberant celebration, injuring his left knee while rushing to plant a shaving-cream pie in the face of Wes Helms after Sunday's walk-off victory. This comes less than two months after Angels' first baseman Kendry Morales suffered a season-ending injury jumping on the plate following his walk-off homer.

The Marlins did not reveal the cause of the injury until Monday, when Coghlan underwent an MRI exam in San Francisco. He has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus, and if he needs surgery, he'll be out six-to-eight weeks. In the meantime, Coghlan was placed on the disabled list after Monday night's game, and Logan Morrison has been recalled from the minors.

Not surprisingly, manager Edwin Rodriguez said the Marlins won't be celebrating with shaving-cream pies any more.

"It's very humbling when the game is taken away and you don't realize it because you play everyday," Coghlan said. "It's also unfortunate because, especially of the circumstance that it happened. If you ever get injured, you want to do it while you're out there competing, not when you're celebrating and just through this experience I hope it shows to the league with [Kendry] Morales' more serious an injury than myself, that you get injured celebrating and I think as players, we just to need to be more aware because it is a game of emotions. Emotions get the best of you, you're excited. There's nothing wrong with that, but be a little smarter when you're celebrating a win."

Coghlan, the reigning NL Rookie of the Year, is hitting .268 this season. He's the Marlins' everyday left fielder and leadoff hitter. Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez said that Hanley Ramirez may bat leadoff in Coghlan's absence.

"It's tough to swallow," pitcher Ricky Nolasco said. "He's a very important part of this team. All we can do is hope for a speedy recovery. It's just unfortunate something like that happens after your spirits are so high. It's real unfortunate. It's an unfortunate freak accident that happens."

The injury could also affect the Marlins' trade plans. They had been reportedly shopping third baseman Jorge Cantu. They could have put Coghlan at third if Cantu were traded, but that option is now gone, at least in the short term.
