Will BynumIt's often the same old tune with restricted free agents. Team officials make their players wait for an offer sheet, not wanting to think they're bidding against themselves.

But agent Mark Bartelstein said that wasn't the case with Detroit and his client, point guard Will Bynum, who agreed to a three-year, $10.5 million contract Wednesday.

"Joe (Dumars) was great,'' Bartelstein said of the Detroit executive. "A lot of times, teams sit back and wait for an offer sheet when you have a restricted free agent. But he worked with us to get a fair deal. ... That was great.''

Bynum last season had averages of 10.0 points and 4.5 assists as a Pistons key reserve. He has three-season NBA averages of 8.1 points and 3.4 assists.

"I've very excited about it,'' Bartelstein said of his client returning to Detroit. "It's a great deal for him.''

Bartelstein has a number of solid players still available on the free-agent market. They include Shannon Brown, Bobby Simmons, Kwame Brown, Eddie House, Louis Amundson, Luther Head, Roger Mason and Damien Wilkins.

Bartelstein said he's continuing to have talks with the Lakers about Shannon Brown. While Bartelstein didn't want to go into specifics, it's apparent Brown wants to return to the team, and the Lakers want him back. The sides just have to agree on a dollar amount.

"We're talking to the Lakers,'' Bartelstein said of conversations regarding Shannon Brown, who opted out of a contract last month that would have paid him $2.149 million next season. "We're working on it.''

Bartelstein also said he'll be having continued conversations with Cleveland general manager Chris Grant, whose team worked out Wilkins on Tuesday. While Wilkins told FanHouse he has great interest in signing with the Cavaliers, the team his father, Gerald Wilkins, played for from 1992-94, Bartelstein said Wilkins also is being looked at by several other teams, including Boston and Chicago. Wilkins emphasized to FanHouse he wants to sign with a winning team.
