Katherine Connors, Miss Iowa USA, to Throw Out First Pitch at Nationals Game

Once Nationals pitcher Miguel Batista retires from baseball he might want to consider a second career as a PR representative. After essentially slighting Miss Iowa on Tuesday night, Batista will get a chance to meet the woman he "insulted" -- by equating her with himself -- when she makes an appearance at Nationals Park.

Batista told reporters on Tuesday night that Nationals fans booing him, after he was named as the emergency starter to replace phenom Stephen Strasburg, is akin to showing up at an event where Miss Universe is supposed to be in attendance and instead you end up having Miss Iowa. "Those kind of boos," he said. Not a terrible analogy, but I've certainly heard better.

As you can imagine, the current Miss Iowa, Katherine Connors, was none too thrilled about being called the Miguel Batista of the Miss America pageant. Can you blame her?

Connors responded to the slight, telling the Des Moines Register that she is certain she can throw a pitch or two, but wonders if Batista can walk the runway in a swimsuit. I don't know if we'll ever find out if Batista can walk the runway, but we'll soon find out of Connors can throw a pitch. (Ed. Note: We NEARLY made it out of the day without Lorenzo talking about a half-naked dude. Sorry, we'll try again tomorrow.)

She announced, via Twitter, that she'll be throwing out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals game on Friday, July 30.
It's official - headed to Washington DC to throw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals game tomorrow night!!!
Say what you will about Batista's comment, but it may have been the best thing to happen to Connors. Would we be talking about her had the comment not been made? I doubt it. Think about it. Per Google, "Katherine Connors" is a more popular search term right now than "Roy Oswalt."

As they say in the press, any derogatory comment made by a journeyman pitcher is a good comment.
