freddy adu sionFreddy Adu's hapless pursuit of a European club to call home has hit yet another roadblock, this time in Switzerland, where FC Sion has announced that the 21-year-old American doesn't fit in with the team's plans.

Adu, still under contract with Portugese power Benfica (which doesn't want him), went on trial at Sion this week. On Friday, the club said on its Web site that it will not sign Adu despite his "undeniable qualities." Somehow, those qualities never seem to be enough to convince a coach to put Adu on the field. Now, they're not even sufficient to secure employment with a team that finished seventh in the Swiss league.

Benfica had loaned Adu to Aris Thessaloniki of Greece in January, and that deal will run through next summer. Aris obviously doesn't have room for Adu either, meaning he may have to dig even deeper to find a team.

Or appeal to a higher power.

"Hopefully some good news in the next couple days," Adu tweeted on Friday. "I know I'm going to be parying. Until then I will be incognito. I'll keep you updated."

Unless that update is "I'm coming home," Adu's pro career looks like it will continue to stagnate. Clearly there is something he's lacking. European clubs don't have the patience to help him identify what it is. He'll only find that in MLS.
