North Korea Soccer Team Branded as Losers
Players endured a six-hour dressing-down in front of 400 people. They were accused of failing in the "ideological struggle" with results such as their 7-0 thumping by Portugal.
Coach Kim Jung Hun was accused of "betraying" Kim Jong Un, son of Kim Jong Il and heir apparent. There were even reports that the coach had been sent to work on a construction site as punishment for his failings in the country's first World Cup appearance since 1966. North Korea went out in the first round after losing all three games.
North Korea's soccer team is one of the most secretive in the world. There were rumors that the fans supporting the team at the World Cup were in fact Chinese.
