The Yankees have acquired outfielder Austin Kearns from the Indians Friday night to add right-handed outfield depth.Kearns, 30, could play left field against left-handed pitching, allowing the Yankees to sit Curtis Granderson and play Brett Gardner in center on those days.
Granderson went into Friday's game hitting .214 against left-handers, with a .286 slugging percentage and .538 OPS. Kearns has hit .250 against lefties this year, bit for his career he has a .799 OPS against southpaws, with a .383 on-base percentage.
The Yankees are also expected to trade for Houston's Lance Berkman, who like Granderson is better against right-handers.
The Indians will get a player to be named or cash for Kearns.
