With Cliff Lee, Dan Haren and Roy Oswalt moved, Ted Lilly could be the next starter traded before Saturday's non-waiver deadline.A Cubs source confirmed the team continues to talk to the Dodgers and the Yankees about Lilly, a left-hander who is 3-8 with a 3.69 ERA.
Lilly, 34, has allowed just 104 hits in 117 innings, with 29 walks. His four-year, $40 million contract is up at the end of the season.
The Cubs and Dodgers have been negotiating how much Chicago would pay of the approximately $4 million left of Lilly's salary. Los Angeles could use another starter, having tried Charlie Haeger, John Ely and Carlos Monasterios in the fifth spot.
The Dodgers were also exploring a deal for Pirates lefty Paul Maholm.
The Yankees could presumably use Lilly while Andy Pettitte recovers from a strained groin and, when Pettitte returns, put Phil Hughes in the bullpen to both shore up the set-up crew and limit Hughes' innings as planned.
