Kerry WoodThe busy Yankees have acquired right-handed reliever Kerry Wood to bolster their bullpen as the trade deadline comes to a close.

Wood, the Indians closer, just came off the disabled list Saturday. He had been out with a blister on his right index finger; before that he was 1-4 with a 6.30 ERA and eight saves in 23 appearances.

But as an experienced closer, he fortifies the eighth-inning role that has been in limbo for the Yankees due to Joba Chamberlain's struggles (5.60 ERA, 51 hits in 45 inning).

The Yankees will send the Indians a player to be named or cash in exchange for Wood, and the transaction must be completed before October 15.

Chan Ho Park was designated for assignment to make room for Wood on the active roster.
