Logan Mankins Just Gained Some Leverage
Nick Kaczur, the Patriots' long-time right tackle, was supposed to slide inside to fill in for Mankins absence now that Sebastian Vollmer has proven to be a better right tackle. But ESPN Boston is reporting that Kaczur has told teammates that his back injury could sideline him for the entire 2010 season.
This is the Patriots, so don't expect Bill Belichick to confirm this report anytime soon (if it is true, the Patriots will either confirm it by eventually putting Kaczur on injured reserve or by ignoring it until Week 17 of the season). But it does seem to indicate that Kaczur's injury is more than just something that will cause him to miss some time during training camp.
Eventually the Patriots will have to make a deal with Mankins--their best offensive lineman. But until then Dan Connolly is the new starter. He's also the only remaining fill-in who has any experience with New England at the position.
