Police Search for Kyron in Area Linked to Stepmom's Friend
The "Today" show said this morning that police searched a large area Sunday where 43-year-old DeDe Spicher had been working on June 4, according to NBC's Portland affiliate, KGW. For about 90 minutes that day, Spicher was unaccounted for and didn't answer her cell phone, "Today" said.
Police investigators also searched areas near the school on Saturday, but no findings have been released, The Oregonian reported.
"They're following up on leads and tips," Multnomah County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Mary Lindstrand, told the paper, refusing to say what led to the renewed search.
She said there were no plans to keep searching today.
The weekend search came after last week's grand jury testimony in the case, which is expected to continue this week, The Oregonian said.
KGW said police have also searched Spicher's condo and a home belonging to her relatives, making the wooded area the third place searched in connection with her.
Police say the stepmother, Terri Horman, is the last person to have seen Kyron, having brought him to an early morning science fair at school. She has not been called a suspect, but the investigation has reportedly focused on her, and she is now isolated from the rest of Kyron's family.
Kyron's father, Kaine Horman, and mother, Desiree Young, have said they believe Terri Horman is involved in Kyron's disappearance.
Kaine Horman also told a judge that his estranged wife was behind a murder plot against him last year. He has filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order against her.
"Today" said Terri Horman and Spicher have been close friends for a few years. When Horman's husband moved out, Spicher went to stay with Terri Horman for a few days.
