Three years ago, the Cleveland Browns entered training camp thinking that they had finally found their franchise quarterback. The team had traded back into the first round of the 2007 draft to save Brady Quinn from the green room, and all that was left to do was groom him for a season, give him the reins, and sit back as the playoff appearances piled up. Of course, it didn't happen like that (when Derek Anderson beats you out for the job, that should have been an early indication that something was amiss) and after a coaching and management change, the Browns cleaned house (except for the curious decision to keep Eric Mangini around, perhaps to serve as the scapegoat when things inevitably fall apart a month into the season).
Quinn's now battling for a backup job with the Broncos, but even though his professional career hasn't taken off, he seems quite happy in his personal life. In November, gymnast Alicia Sacramone admitted that she and Quinn were an item, and during a recent interview with NBC, she couldn't quit gushing about the guy who now plays behind Kyle Orton.
The best part? Sacramone admitting that she really had no idea who Quinn was when they first met:
It wasn't until she returned home to suburban Boston and consulted her father Fred that things clicked. That must have been one hell of a fantasty football team.
"He told me, 'I'm Brady, and I watched you at the Olympics and wanted to say that I really appreciated what you did' and yada yada," Sacramone said. "I went home and asked my dad if he knew who Brady Quinn was, and he said, 'Alicia, he's on my fantasy football team.'"
