Jose Canseco Is Now a Bench Coach/Designated Hitter

Jose Canseco is broke.

Seriously, all you have to do is read his Twitter page to realize that he has no money. In recent days he's tweeted about being evicted, having to give away one of his dogs, and that he's now living in a garage. He also said that he'd play softball for food.

Well it looks like Canseco's not going to have to play softball to eat anymore, but he will have to return to baseball as both a designated hitter and hitting coach for an independent league team.

Canseco has signed with the United League's Laredo Broncos, though the team is saying it's only a short-term contract. He'll be serving as the team's designated hitter and bench coach over its next two homestands starting on Monday with a three-game set against the Rio Grande Valley White Wings. He'll then return for a three-game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder beginning on August 28.

I'm not sure I would want Canseco serving as my bench coach because I fear his answer to every question a player asks him will involve either a syringe or getting inside a cage. Still, it's obvious the man needs money so maybe the Broncos see this as a charitable contribution they can write off on their taxes.
