Rudy FernandezAndy Miller, the agent for disgruntled Portland Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez, did an interview in which Miller said Rudy wants to leave the NBA, having given up hope on being traded by a team who won't give him a satisfactory role. Remember Juan Carlos Navarro, former disgruntled Grizzly? It's the same deal, except La Bomba was on a one-year deal with the Grizzlies, and promptly returned to Spain after a regrettable (in terms of his own happiness) season in the NBA.

Rudy is under contract with the Blazers for at least one more season, and two, if Portland picks up his option for the 2011-12 season, which they can do any time before the start of the 2010-11 season. As such, he can't be walking around publicly demanding trades or having his agent do the same. That's conduct detrimental to the league, and lo and behold, that's worth a $25,000 fine, which the NBA handed out on Thursday.

Agents know where the line is, and Miller toed it just carelessly enough to draw the attention of league officials in Secaucus, N.J. Somehow, though, the Fernandez beat will remain an active one. Just don't expect to get any on-the-record interviews anytime soon. Cue "a source close to Fernandez."
