Terrell Owens Proves Point at 36; Should Carson Palmer Feel Relieved?
Owens, unemployed for a long stretch of the offseason with teams wary he would be a problem in the locker room, also answered a few concerns about his skills at age 36.
"According to sources and anybody that analyzes talent or what-have-you: I'm 36, I've slowed down," said Owens, according to the Associated Press. "I don't have it anymore. I'm a different person. I'm very talented, I keep myself in shape. So everybody can think I've slowed down. If they want to play me like that, that's fine."
Since the Bengals' first game of the preseason, Palmer and the coaching staff has been trying to get the ball to Owens for a big play. In Friday night's victory over Owens' former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, it finally happened. Palmer hooked up with Owens on a 43-yard pass along the sideline as he extended over Eagles defensive back Joselio Hanson on a fine catch before running out of bounds at the Eagles' 6-yard line. The deep catch set up the only offensive touchdown for the first-unit.
"That's what they brought me here for, right? Deep threat," said Owens. "Beat your guy, get down the field, make the catch. We've got it all in our arsenal."
Palmer seconded that emotion. "He's as good as anyone when he gets on top of a corner," said Palmer. "We're going to take shots when we get opportunities."
Owens had a strong night with three catches for 67 yards, but Palmer finished with 169 yards passing (15-for-23) and two interceptions while trying to hit Chad Ochocinco.
Palmer still may feel some pressure ... to get the ball to Ochocinco?
Stay tuned!
