Bills Continue Battling Injury Bug: Now at Receiver, Tight End

It's bad enough that the Buffalo Bills are without their top two running backs on the depth chart -- Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch, though rookie C.J. Spiller looked very good in the Bills' win over Indianapolis last week. Now the injuries are mounting again, and this time it's in the passing game.

Bills coach Chan Gailey told reporters after Sunday night's practice that rookie wide receiver Marcus Easley was placed on injured reserve with a left knee injury and he is down to one healthy tight end after Michael Matthews turned his ankle running a route in the night practice. As of now, Jonathan Stupar is the lone tight end healthy enough to play as Matthews joined Derek Schouman (right knee), Shawn Nelson (four-game suspension) and Joe Klopfenstein (IR).

'We've got one healthy tight end right now and it makes it very difficult," Gailey said. "But that's part of it. You deal with it and go on."

On the defensive side of the ball, rookie linebacker Danny Batten joined Easley on IR with a right shoulder injury that was not getting better. Safety Jairus Byrd had surgery last week to repair a groin injury and Gailey still is unsure whether or not he will be back in time for Buffalo's season opener Sept. 12 against the Miami Dolphins.
