Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown apparently won't be in attendance as the Cleveland Browns unveil their Ring of Honor next month. Brown has not officially notified the team that he won't attend the ceremony at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sept 19, although his wife, Monique Brown, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer not to expect him. The Browns are expected to announce the creation of the ring, which will first honor the 16 Browns players already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, this week.
"He won't be able to make it," said Monique Brown said. "He tried to move a few things around [his schedule], but wasn't able to."
The newspaper reports that relations between Brown and the franchise have been icy of late, possibly due to the fact Mike Holmgren removed Brown as an executive adviser shortly after Holmgren took over as president in January. Holmgren offered Brown a reduced rule and a pay cut to stay on, but Brown declined.
"I'm afraid we've seen the last of Jim Brown around here," a source told the newspaper.
