Mike Krzyzewski is getting his own day in his native Chicago. The Duke coach, who's won four national championships, led Team USA to a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics, and ranks fourth all-time in Division I wins, will be honored by the city Sept. 15, the same day he's inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame.
Krzyzewski, 63, was born and raised in the city and played basketball at the now-closed Archbishop Weber High School before attending Army. He is also slated to receive the Ray Meyer Coach of the Year Award.
Krzyzewski, who has coached the Blue Devils for 30 years, won his fourth national championship in April, defeating Butler. His title total ranks behind only John Wooden, while his 11 Final Fours trail only Wooden's 12.
The day could be the beginning of a memorable year for the Duke coach. He is just 35 wins from overtaking mentor Bobby Knight on the all-time wins list, while the Blue Devils will enter the season as favorites for the 2010 national title. Duke ranked first in FanHouse's spring top 25.
