Eli Manning, Keith Bulluck Making Adjustments for the Giants

New York being New York, much of the buzz with the Giants this week has been about Eli Manning's new helmet, the one that will allow the quarterback to play Saturday at Baltimore after he had to sit out last week because of his stitched-up forehead. The news, breathlessly awaited by Giants fans, is that the new helmet's chinstrap buttons differently than usual "just to ensure that it's on tight," and isn't on the side, the quarterback said.

A more interesting move to the side has been made on New York's defense. Keith Bulluck, signed last month as the presumptive heir to retired middle linebacker Antonio Pierce, showed up on Monday morning after Sunday's day off to discover that he had been moved to the weak side.

"I came into work and they told me I would be taking some outside linebacker snaps," said Bulluck, whose 1,265 tackles at outside linebacker during the past decade were third in franchise history since the Oilers/Titans began keeping track in 1974. "It was never a thing that I was going to necessarily play middle linebacker. Wherever I fit. Throughout camp, I showed that I could play the Mike and I've been playing outside for the last 10 years. It helps the team that I have a little bit of flexibility."

Bulluck could have been talking about the improved flexibility in the left knee whose ACL he tore last December and which caused teams to shy away from signing him this spring. But the 33-year-old veteran, for now the weak side starter ahead of second-year man Clint Sintim, was talking about his willingness to go with the flow.

"I'm not one to ask questions," Bulluck said. "At the end of the day [the coaches] are going to make a decision that's best for the team. If that includes me playing a role, that's fine. If it means I'm starting, that's fine. Whatever is best for this team, that's the direction I'm going."
