Taylor King Picks NAIA Concordia Instead of USC
The frequent-flyer forward announced he will play at NAIA Concordia instead of USC as he had previously indicated. Both stories were first reported by FOXSports.com's Jeff Goodman.
King told Goodman the cost of walking-on at USC, which he would've been required to do for the upcoming season, was prohibitive.
The decision comes two weeks after he announced his intention to transfer to USC, which in turn came three months after he decided to leave the Villanova basketball program.
And for King, it's the latest twist in a career with more turns than the Daytona 500.
King, a former McDonald's All-American at Mater Dei in Santa Ana, Calif., has been in college basketball headlines for the better part of a decade. He committed to UCLA following his eighth grade year, but decommitted two years later and eventually signed with Duke. King played a wildly uneven freshman season with the Blue Devils in 2008, then sat out the 2009 season while transferring to Villanova.
King averaged 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds a game with the Wildcats in 2010, but struggled late in the year was was benched in the Wildcats' regular-season finale in what coach Jay Wright called a "teaching moment," while King worked through "personal stuff."
His career then seemed over in May, when the 6-foot-8 forward voluntarily left the Villanova program and said he was concentrating on getting a degree.
Now it continues at an NAIA school in California. King will have two years of eligibility remaining.
At least, until the next move.
