James Bell, rated a four-star small forward by Scout.com, is out indefinitely with stress fractures in the tibia of both legs, according to a release sent out by Villanova.

The incoming Wildcat freshman will be re-evaulated in October, but is prohibited from basketball activities, the team said.

"We're disappointed for James," Villanova head coach Jay Wright said in the statement. "He has acclimated himself very well academically and socially at Villanova in his short time with us. I am sure he will take that same kind of mature approach with his rehab. We don't know how long he will be out, but we will monitor his rehab closely."

Bell, a 6-foot-5 small forward from Montverde, Fla., was expected to compete for minutes in Wright's always deep guard and wing rotation. The Wildcats return guards Corey Fisher, Corey Stokes, Malik Wayns and Dominic Cheek, but Bell could still find minutes in the rotation if he returns to health.

Tibial stress fractures are not uncommon in basketball. Former North Carolina star Tyler Hansbrough missed four of the Tar Heels first seven games in 2008-2009 while recovering from a stress fracture in his right shin.

Villanova finished 25-8 a season ago and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats were picked sixth in the FanHouse spring top 25 poll.
